2012 CADILLAC STS REVIEW
Most anyone who has been a middle child knows how it must be for the 2012 Cadillac STS. Slotted between the headline-grabbing, Euro-flavored CTS and the perpetually popular, old-school land yacht DTS, the STS goes nearly unnoticed, garnering less than half the sales of its siblings. This large luxury sedan seems to have everything it needs to get attention -- crisply tailored sheet metal, strong performance, commendable handling that belies its substantial size and enough high-tech gadgets (such as a blind-zone alert system and adaptive cruise control) to keep early adopters deliriously happy.

OPTIONS
The V6 Luxury Sport comes with 17-inch wheels, leather seating, aluminum interior trim, eight-way power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry and ignition, satellite radio, an eight-speaker Bose sound system and OnStar. The V6 Luxury (yes, it's a step up from Luxury Sport) adds wood trim, front seat power lumbar supports, a CD changer, Bluetooth, driver memory settings, heated/ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and rain-sensing wipers. The V6 Premium adds 18-inch wheels, upgraded braking, steering and cooling systems, limited-slip differential, automatic level control, rear spoiler, auto-dimming rearview mirror, headlight washers, auto-dimming xenon headlights, an upgraded surround-sound audio system and a navigation system. The V8 Luxury is equipped similarly to the V6 Luxury minus the ventilated seats and plus the automatic level control. The V8 Performance is equipped similarly to the V6 Premium and adds an adaptive suspension, blind zone/lane departure alert, a sunroof, a head-up display and adaptive cruise control.

SUMMARY
The Cadillac STS offers a smooth and powerful driving experience with warm and luxurious accommodations. The STS V8 model with the Performance Package offers a great driving balance. We appreciated the all-wheel-drive model for its all-weather capability while maintaining the enjoyable sporty handling. People who enjoy getting where they're going as much as, if not more than, being there, but who pine for luxury touches and good old American V8 power, need no longer compromise.

2012 Cadillac SRX Review
The SRX is offered in front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive models. A 265-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6 is standard, while a 300-hp, 2.8-liter turbocharged V6 is optional. Both engines come with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Unlike last year's SRX, which offered a small third row and seating for up to seven, the new SRX has space for five adults in just two rows. But actual back-seat space has improved because of the extra width. A Cargo Management System in back includes a retractable cargo fence to restrain smaller items, along with a track system. The back seats, of course, fold flat to expand cargo space when they're not in use.

Walkaround
The new all-wheel drive system in the SRX can move all available torque to either the front or rear wheels as needed, and it can also divide torque from side to side, so as to allow especially strong grip, even under power on slick roads. And with the base engine, the tow rating is 3,500 pounds-enough for a small boat or jet-skis. Standard equipment on the SRX is very generous, including dual-zone automatic climate control, heated outside mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, steering-wheel controls and an MP3-compatible Bose 8-speaker CD sound system with XM tuner. A Luxury Collection package adds lots more, including heated seats, more seat adjustability, wood trim, rain-sensing wipers, a sunroof, a power liftgate, a Bluetooth hands-free calling interface, power-adjustable pedals, remote start, and LED lighting accents. The driving experience in the SRX is sophisticated and refined, thanks to the available continuously variable real-time damping system which adjusts shock rates to road conditions. Speed-sensitive rack-and-pinion steering gives a sporty feel of the road, and electronic stability control is standard, along with anti-lock brakes.

Summary
The 3.0-liter V6 has an all-aluminum construction along with direct-injection, which allows it to produce more power than most other engines its size and also return decent fuel economy, all on regular fuel. However the turbocharged engine produces much more torque than the base engine-making it feel especially responsive-and can accelerate the SRX to 60 mph in just 7.6 seconds. Materials in the new SRX have been upgraded to include hand-cut and hand-sewn instrument-panel trim and soft leather upholstery, with matte-metallic accents. The SRX builds on the angular, beveled design theme that most new Cadillac vehicles now have, with a prominent center control stack flanked by big, vertical vents.

2012 CADILLAC REVIEW
The Escalade includes three different models--the standard Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV, which are luxurious sport-utility vehicles; and the Escalade EXT, which includes most of the attributes of the Escalade SUV but offers a pickup bed.No matter the style, the Escalade is powered by a 403-horsepower, 6.2L V8 engine that's also Flex-Fuel capable, meaning that it can run on up to 85% ethanol-gasoline mix. It's paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. However, the full-time all-wheel drive system does not include a low range and is designed for on-road duty.

WALKAROUND
The Escalade Hybrid employs a version of GM's 2-mode hybrid system, featuring an electric motor system that can capture energy when coasting or cruising and use it to assist when accelerating. The Hybrid's powertrain features a variable automatic transmission and a 300-volt nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The engine also has an Auto Stop mode that shuts off the engine when possible to further aid in saving fuel, while the air conditioning compressor and power steering are driven electrically to save power. Altogether, the Hybrid delivers EPA ratings of 20 city, 23 highway, with a 5,800-pound tow rating. The Escalade performs surprisingly well for a heavy, body-on-frame SUV. The V8 provides strong acceleration and impressive passing power. It also handles quite well and has been tuned for smooth, but not bouncy, ride quality. Across the lineup, big 4-wheel disc brakes are included, along with anti-lock brakes and GM's Stabilitrak electronic stability control, plus a full contingent of airbags.Additional high-tech safety features offered on the Escalade include Side Blind Zone Alert, which sounds an audible and visual alert if there are objects detected in the blind zones. OnStar Turn-by-Turn Navigation allows the driver to download directions from an operator-assisted call center directly to the navigation system, while XM NavTraffic enables live traffic updates.

SUMMARY
The key difference between the standard Escalade and the ESV is that the ESV's wheelbase is more than a foot longer. That means that while the ESV won't turn and park quite as neatly, it does offer a bit more legroom for the third row, along with more space behind it; access to the third row is improved as well. Both versions get a fold-and-tumble second row, however. Standard Escalades and ESV models have seating for up to seven, while the EXT has space for up to five, with two rows of seating and a small pickup bed that's just large enough for a piece of furniture or an ATV. What makes the EXT especially noteworthy is that the cargo bed can be extended into the cabin when necessary to accommodate larger items, while a lockable tonneau cover can be placed over items when you're not using the entire bed.Escalade and Escalade ESV are offered in Base, Luxury, Premium, and Platinum editions. The Platinum models get a long list of exclusive equipment, including Magnetic Ride Control (which helps further improve both ride and handling), distinctive LED headlamps, Airline leather with contrasting stitching, special leather surfaces with French-stitched seams and special wood and aluminum trim. The standard Escalade cabin is nearly as lavish, with Ebony and Cashmere interior surfaces, white LED lighting, heated-and-cooled front seats and a heated steering wheel.

2012 CADILLAC DTS REVIEW
You know the expression "the more things change, the more they stay the same"? Well, that old clich actually turns out to be a pretty succinct summation of the 2012 Cadillac DTS sedan. Despite Cadillac's attempts to modernize it over the years -- including giving it the somewhat uninspiring DTS moniker back in 2006 -- this full-size flagship of GM's luxury brand remains a bit of an anachronism. Simply put, it has as much in common with the classic DeVille sedans of Detroit's golden age, an era when rolling up in one of these epic land yachts announced to the world that you'd arrived, as it does the current luxury sedan market.

OPTIONS
The 2012 Cadillac DTS full-size sedan is available in one well-equipped base model and three increasingly upscale trim levels dubbed Luxury, Premium and Platinum. The standard equipment list for the entry-level DTS includes 17-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights, front foglights, remote engine start, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power front seats, Bluetooth, OnStar and an eight-speaker CD stereo.

SUMMARY
With a suspension tuned to favor a cushy ride over sporty handling, the 2012 Cadillac DTS is all about coddling its occupants. In other words, it's the epitome of a car built for comfort rather than speed. The DTS Platinum is the best driving model thanks to its more powerful V8 under the hood and the Magnetic Ride Control suspension -- the same technology offered as an option on the Chevrolet Corvette -- that automatically adjusts suspension firmness to match road conditions and your driving style. But let's keep things in perspective here, as even with these powertrain and suspension upgrades, the DTS is no sport sedan. Also, because of its size, it can be difficult to park -- especially for shorter drivers. Ultimately, its combination of a smooth ride and a comfortable, roomy interior make the DTS best suited to drivers who prefer to motor along at a nice relaxed pace.

2012 CADILLAC REVIEW
The Cadillac CTS is offered in three body styles: sedan, sport wagon and coupe. For the sedan and wagon, two trim levels are available, starting with the base 3.0, which features a 270-hp 3.0L V6 and a standard 6-speed manual or optional 6-speed automatic transmission. The CTS 3.6 is powered by a 318-hp 3.6L V6 and a standard 6-speed automatic. The coupe gets the 3.6, and all three body styles can be ordered with either rear-wheel drive or all- wheel drive.

WALKAROUND
All three versions share a chassis that was developed on Germany's Nurburgring test track, giving it both good handing and responsiveness while remaining comfortable enough for daily road use--although a bit stiff for some tastes. GM's StabiliTrak electronic stability control is standard across the line. All CTS models come well- equipped. The 3.0L features 17- inch alloy wheels, automatic headlamps, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, an 8-way power-adjustable seat, a tilt and telescopic steering column, premium vinyl seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and an 8-speaker Bose sound system as standard. 3.0 Luxury trim adds a power passenger's seat, driver's memory functions, heated seats, leather upholstery, a wood and leather steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity.

WALKAROUND
The 3.6 models feature the larger V6 engine, but also 18-inch wheels, high-performance brakes, upgraded sport-tuned suspension, a limited-slip rear differential and HID headlamps. 3.6 Premium, adds a 5.1 surround Bose 10- speaker stereo with hard-drive based music storage and USB/iPod connections. A Luxury Level Two package is also available on top of the Performance trims, adding rear parking sensors, heated and cooled front seats, folding rear seat, keyless entry and remote start. The performance-oriented CTS-V comes with an impressive 556- horse supercharged 6.2L V8 and the choice of either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. For 2012, the CTS-V is available in either sedan or coupe versions. GM's Magnetic Ride Control suspension is standard, which gives the driver two separate firmness modes. In addition to that, GM's Performance Traction Management helps wrestle all the V's power to the ground without limiting spirited performance driving. Special bold exterior styling touches complete the package, as well as unique interior appointments that include optional Recaro seats with 14-way adjustments and special suede- like leather wraps on the steering wheel and shift knob. A GPS navigation system is standard.

2010 CADILLAC ESCALADE ESV REVIEW
Powerful and unapologetically American, the Cadillac Escalade ESV is the Big Kahuna of the Escalade luxury SUV family. Everything about it is massive, from its extended wheelbase to its V8 engine and Bose sound system. Introduced in 2003 as a variant of the regular Escalade, the ESV broadens the Escalade's appeal by offering the absolute maximum in passenger room and cargo space.

WALKAROUND
No wonder celebs, athletes and moguls are enticed by the Cadillac Escalade ESV. Available in a single trim level, the luxury SUV pampers like few vehicles can. It is vast and plush. As the upscale sibling to the Chevrolet Suburban, the identically sized ESV offers three rows of seating and can accommodate up to eight people. To facilitate access to the third row, Cadillac offers an optional power fold-and-flip function for the ESV's second-row seats. With this kind of seating capability, the Cadillac Escalade ESV is understandably popular with family buyers as well. The interior comes with finely stitched leather upholstery, faux wood trim and loads of standard features, including tri-zone automatic climate control, 14-way power and heated front seats, a touchscreen navigation system with a rearview camera and real-time traffic, and a Bose 5.1 surround-sound audio system with 10 speakers and an in-dash CD/DVD changer. There are some low-grade plastics here and there, but in general, the Escalade ESV's cabin feels suitably upscale for a vehicle with a $60K price tag. In addition, even with all this technology on board, the control layout remains simple and user-friendly.

OPTIONS
Factory options include 22-inch chrome wheels (as an upgrade from the standard 18s), a sunroof, multilevel cooling for the front seats and a heated power-tilting steering wheel. Unfortunately, the third-row seats don't fold flat into the floor. Although cumbersome to lift, the third-row bench's 50/50 sections are removable; with them removed, the ESV provides 90 cubic feet of cargo space. Fold and flip the second-row chairs out of the way and there's a maximum capacity of 137 cubic feet. With all the seats in place, there are still 46 cubic feet available in this extended-length Escalade. Power for the Cadillac Escalade ESV comes from the same 6.2-liter V8 engine found in the standard Escalade. It churns out 403 horsepower and 417 pound-feet of torque. A heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission is standard, with rear- and all-wheel drive available.

SUMMARY
In road tests, we found the ESV performs very much like the standard Escalade, even with its extended wheelbase. As big SUVs go, it's a gratifying driving package. Given the ESV's size and mass, you'd expect some difficulty in the handling department, but the Escalade ESV's rack-and-pinion steering is light and precise. By no means is it a nimble vehicle, but it's stable and controlled and provides a comfortable ride. With its big-time V8, power comes on in a deluge under full throttle, despite the fact that the ESV weighs nearly 6,000 pounds.

2010 CADILLAC CTS REVIEW
The 2010 Cadillac CTS ranks 4 out of 16 Upscale Midsize Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 35 published reviews and test drives of the Cadillac CTS, and our analysis of reliability and safety data. The Cadillac CTS is widely considered to be one of the best cars GM has built in years. Competitive with the best entry-level luxury cars in the world, it's fun to drive and stylish inside and out. Only a few complaints consistently emerge in reviews of the CTS. Its front seats divide reviewers - some love them, others say they are not as supportive as they should be. That means it's a good idea to test drive the CTS before setting your heart on it, to be sure your body type works with the car. Some test drivers also say its manual transmission suffers from stiffness and long throws. There is a high-performance CTS model, the CTS-V, that wins tremendous praise for its performance. We review the CTS-V separately, and should note that, although its performance is almost unparalleled, it costs significantly more than other CTS models.

OPTIONS
For 2010, Cadillac has redesigned the base engine of the CTS. With direct-injection, the 3.0-liter V6 now offers better fuel economy while maintaining the strong performance the car has been known for. A wagon model will be introduced later in the model year.

SUMMARY
Reviewers say the CTS is not quite as athletic as its sharpest competitors. BMW's 3-Series and Infiniti's G37 are both quicker cars. But the CTS offers a more driver-friendly cockpit than either of them. The CTS is available in just one trim level, with either rear- or all-wheel drive. A V6 engine is the only one offered. It can be paired with a manual or automatic six-speed transmission.
